Topstep Consistency Rule, Explained

Rules verified 2026-07-13 · official source

Topstep caps your best single day at 50% of total profit in both the evaluation and on the funded account. One huge day doesn't fail you — it just doesn't count fully until you dilute it with more trading days.

What the rule actually blocks

The math: if your best day is $2,000 and the cap is 50%, you need total profit of at least $4,000 before that day stops being "too big". You don't lose the money — you keep trading (or keep waiting) until the ratio clears.

Note the funded account is TIGHTER: best day ≤ 40% of total profit, versus 50% in the Combine.

Trading Combine≤ 50% of total profit
Funded Account≤ 40% of total profit

How traders actually breach it

The trap isn't breaking the rule — it's planning a payout around a P&L number the rule won't release yet. Traders count the money before checking the best-day ratio.

TradersGuild tracks this rule live against your trade log and alerts you while there's still room — "you're $220 from the line" beats finding out from a breach email. Tracking is free for your first account.

Recent Topstep rule changes

2026-07-13 — Confirmed the Trading Combine max-position caps (50K = 5 / 100K = 10 / 150K = 15 contracts, micros 10:1; not available on the Live Funded Account) and un-held the Express (XFA) payout paths: STANDARD = 5 winning days of $150+ each, OR CONSISTENCY = trade ≥3 days with the largest winning day ≤ 40% of total net profit. Payout caps $5,000 (Standard) / $6,000 (Consistency), 90/10 split.

2026-07-05 — Corrected the Maximum Loss Limit to end-of-day trailing (locks at your starting balance), and added the Combine's 50%-of-profit consistency rule (40% at the funded payout stage).

FAQ

What is the Topstep consistency rule?

Your best single day can't exceed 50% of your total profit in both the evaluation and on the funded account. It delays payouts/passing rather than failing the account.

Does breaking the consistency rule fail my Topstep account?

No — it's not a breach. It blocks the pass/payout until more trading days dilute the oversized day below the cap.
